Dymock Half Marathon
This popular event is held on the last Sunday of May each year. It was first held during the early 1980s in conjunction with the village carnival and fete. In recent years the Dymock Music Festival has been added to the day to extend the enjoyment for all. The course has been changed recently to incorporate regulations laid down by the Midland Counties AAA which also demands an officially measured distance. The race begins at Dymock Cricket Club to the sound of a cannon, proceeds through the village, taking a left hand turn to cross the old Hereford/Gloucester canal then continues through Four Oaks, Oxenhall and Kempley returning through the village to finish at the cricket ground in time for the ever popular Dymock Music Festival.
It is a friendly, rural road race with some challenging uphill bits through the rolling countryside of North Gloucestershire. Best described as undulating by some, hilly by others, it is challenging and as such not one for a PB but the views are superb and well worth the effort.
